An ode to John Singer Sargent's (A Street in Venice, 1882), one of my favorite artists, from one of my favorite cities, and one of my favorite pieces. Sargent's original painting is beautiful yet has an oppressive gloom about it. He captured the hazy light that's typical in Venice. The current COVID pandemic seems to match the mood. I wanted to connect the pieces, 138 years apart. 18" x 24", oil on board.
